Once the liver tags a hormone or toxin for excretion (by attaching a glucuronic acid molecule — Phase II glucuronidation), it travels through the bile to the gut. There, gut bacteria produce beta-glucuronidase, which can cleave the tag and send the compound back into circulation — a kind of detox-undo. Calcium D-glucarate inhibits beta-glucuronidase, allowing the body to actually finish the job of clearing estrogens and other compounds. It's the downstream partner to DIM, which works on the upstream metabolism step.

Form: Calcium D-Glucarate capsules.
Dose: 500–1,500 mg/day. Typical doses are 500 mg 2–3x daily.
Timing: With food. AM and PM split for higher doses.
Schedule: Daily.
Side effects: Generally very well-tolerated. Mild GI upset, dry mouth occasionally.
Interactions: Medications cleared via glucuronidation (lorazepam, morphine, certain anti-virals, acetaminophen) — calcium D-glucarate may accelerate clearance, lowering blood levels.
Contraindications: Pregnancy / breastfeeding (limited data). Otherwise none significant.
Lab markers: Urinary estrogen metabolites (DUTCH test). Not routinely needed for general use.
Food sources: Oranges, apples, grapefruit, broccoli, brussels sprouts, lettuce — contain glucaric acid but in much smaller amounts than supplements deliver.
