The sleep loop
- Why nights are worst
A quiet room makes tinnitus stand out by contrast, and poor sleep lowers your tolerance for it the next day — a vicious cycle. Bedside sound enrichment (a fan, nature sounds) and standard sleep hygiene help. And if insomnia has taken hold, CBT-I (cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia) is the standout: a trial showed it improved both the insomnia and the tinnitus distress, and the gains lasted to follow-up.
