The caffeine / salt / alcohol myth
- Don't over-restrict
The reflexive advice to cut caffeine isn't supported: a controlled trial found caffeine did not worsen tinnitus, and caffeine withdrawal can make it worse. Salt matters mainly in Ménière's disease, not ordinary tinnitus; alcohol and nicotine effects are individual. Needlessly policing your diet breeds food-trigger anxiety — itself a stressor that feeds the loop. Run a quick personal test if you suspect a trigger; otherwise, don't restrict.
