Topical GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide)
A copper-peptide that signals skin remodeling, collagen production, and follicle activation. One of the most evidence-backed topical peptides.
Strong for wound healing acceleration (decades of clinical use). Moderate for skin firmness, fine line reduction, pigmentation, and hair density. Effects: 8–16 weeks.
GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring tripeptide bound to copper that the body uses as a signal for tissue repair. Levels drop sharply with age. Applied topically (or injected — see the peptide reference), GHK-Cu drives collagen and elastin production, regulates hundreds of genes related to skin remodeling, supports wound healing, and activates hair follicles. Multiple RCTs on skincare formulations show reduced lines, improved firmness, and pigmentation improvement. The injectable form is covered in the Whatstack peptide reference.
- Form
- Copper peptide serum or cream standardised to GHK-Cu content (Niod CAIS, Skin Biology, Inkey List). Look for 0.05–2% concentration.
- Dose
- Apply per product instructions.
- Timing
- PM. Don't combine in the same step as vitamin C (oxidises copper) — alternate AM C and PM GHK-Cu.
- Schedule
- Daily.
- Side effects
- Generally well-tolerated. Faint blue tint to skin transiently (from the copper). Rare irritation.
- Interactions
- Vitamin C in the same step deactivates copper — separate AM / PM. Acids (AHAs / BHAs) can destabilise — separate.
- Contraindications
- Wilson disease (theoretical copper accumulation). Active cancer at site of application (theoretical).
- Lab markers
- Visual / photographic.
- Food sources
- Not food (injectable GHK-Cu is in the peptide reference).
Pairs with
Retinoids (synergistic remodeling). HA, niacinamide (barrier + brightening).
