Topical CoQ10
A fat-soluble antioxidant that sits in skin mitochondria and protects against UV-driven oxidative damage. Modest standalone effect, useful in stacks.
Modest evidence for fine line reduction, skin elasticity, UV protection. Effects subtle and slow. Effects: 8–16 weeks.
CoQ10 declines in skin with age, especially in sun-exposed areas. Topical CoQ10 (ubiquinol form especially) penetrates the upper dermis and supports mitochondrial function in skin cells — important for cellular energy, collagen production, and antioxidant defence. The effect is gentler and slower than retinol or vitamin C, but it's an excellent third-tier antioxidant addition. Best-studied as part of multi-active anti-aging formulas rather than standalone.
