IP6 (inositol hexaphosphate, phytic acid) is the storage form of phosphorus in plants and seeds. In supplement form (often paired with inositol — 'IP6 + Inositol' branded products), it acts as a chelator of excess iron, blocks the formation of free radicals from Fenton chemistry, and shows anti-cancer activity in animal and small human trials (most strongly with breast cancer adjunct work by AbulKalam Shamsuddin). Also supports bone density and kidney stone prevention. Different from regular inositol — read the label.

Form
IP6 + Inositol blends (Cell Forte, IP-6 International, Jarrow). Avoid generic 'phytic acid' without standardisation.
Dose
800–2,400 mg IP6 daily, often combined with 200–600 mg inositol.
Timing
Empty stomach for chelation effect (away from minerals). PM common.
Schedule
Daily.
Side effects
Generally well-tolerated. Can cause mineral deficiencies (especially iron, zinc, calcium) at high chronic doses — take separate from mineral-rich meals.
Interactions
Iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium — chelates and reduces absorption. Take 2 hours from mineral-containing meals or supplements.
Contraindications
Iron-deficiency anemia. Active osteoporosis without mineral monitoring. Pregnancy / breastfeeding.
Lab markers
Ferritin (iron status), mineral panel if running long-term.
Food sources
Whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds — naturally high in phytic acid (often considered an 'anti-nutrient' for mineral absorption, beneficial in some contexts).
