Bimodal stimulation — Lenire
- The FDA milestone
Lenire (Neuromod) pairs sound through headphones with mild electrical stimulation of the tongue, ~30–60 min/day for 12 weeks. It earned an FDA De Novo authorization in 2023 — the first device of its kind. Its trials (TENT-A1/A2/A3) show most users improve, with a clean safety record. The honest caveats: the pivotal design couldn't use a true sham; the key TENT-A3 trial only beat sound-alone in moderate-to-severe tinnitus; the benefit is modest (a drop in handicap, not silence); it runs ~$4,000 out of pocket; and durability is under-studied. A reasonable option for motivated moderate-to-severe sufferers who understand the limits. Evidence ●●●○○
